What qualities are we looking for from a volunteer?

Depending on the volunteering role, we’re looking for people who:

We’ll pay reasonable travel and out of pocket expenses during your volunteering activities with us.

If you are currently claiming any benefits, volunteering shouldn’t affect your right to claim.
We do not offer study or work experience placements for counselling. This is because we never limit the time we support a person or family and it’s important that any support given is stable and therefore long term. We do, however, offer and encourage long term volunteer support to enable lasting, trusting relationships to develop with our families who we can be supporting for many years.

Volunteering with us can offer some valuable transferrable skills. We do ask that given the time and resources involved in training as a volunteer that you can commit to at least a year with HOPE. If you wish to become a long tern volunteer, please let us know.

I began volunteering for HOPE in 2016. I was overwhelmed with the support and time that was being offered to those who needed it. I wanted to be part of the team.

I have learnt so much from working alongside such compassionate and caring people and hope to continue to learn from them for many years to come.

Being able to offer my time and know that I have helped someone in return is the best reward I could receive.

Just spending a few days in the office made me realise what a positive benefit this charity was having on me.

It really made me open my eyes to how much we all need to support each other, especially in times of loss.
