When a young teenager lost an older sibling in a sudden road traffic collision, their world changed overnight. Struggling with overwhelming grief and anxiety, they withdrew from friends, school, and even family life. Their parents, desperate to find support, reached out to HOPE.

Thanks to generous grants, donations, and community fundraising, HOPE was able to offer the family free, and unlimited access to trauma‑informed support. The young person now attends HOPE’s monthly peer support group, where they can meet others who have experienced sudden traumatic bereavement due to incidents such as road traffic collisions, fires or drowning. They also spend time with HOPE’s therapy dog, whose gentle presence helps them feel safe enough to begin expressing their emotions.

Behind the scenes, every counselling session, group activity, and therapeutic interaction is made possible by the kindness of donors and fundraisers. One family’s sponsored run helped cover the cost of one‑to‑one sessions. A regional foundation grant supported the training of project officers who guide young people and families through their healing journey. And every tombola, supermarket bag pack, or donation from supporters and corporate sponsors ensures that HOPE can continue providing services without financial barriers.

Today, this young person is slowly rebuilding confidence. They’ve returned to school and made new friends. Their story is one of many that show how every pound raised makes a real, lasting difference.
