Local charity HOPE is smiling, not just at the jokes, after a comedy night was held to raise funds to support the work they do.
South Yorkshire police officer, Sergeant Andy Whittaker, who works with the charity, teamed up with his event host friend to arrange the comedy night with a total of £3,500 being donated to the HOPE charity.
The event was compered by Stephen Owen with comedians Bob Mills, Jack Campbell and Matt Daniel-Baker providing a hilarious line up of acts to amuse the audience at the Niagra Sports and Social Club.
After the evening’s entertainment, an auction was held with gift experiences and items donated by generous local businesses and organisations sold off to the highest bidder to raise more money. A raffle, with further prizes being donated, finished off the evening of fun and merriment.
Maryann, Charity Operations Manager said, “We were just flabbergasted at the response. This is the first time something like this has been done for HOPE and we were just so grateful for everyone’s generosity. We can’t thank people enough, from Andy and Stephen who put so much effort into organising the event, the people who came along and dug deep into their pockets, to the businesses, organisations and individuals who donated prizes for the auction and raffle.
“HOPE provides free and unlimited support to people who have been bereaved or affected by traumatic events such as a road traffic collision, fire or drowning. The money raised will go directly to supporting families in whatever way they need following their traumatic bereavement, as well as providing some organised activities to bring people together and help them to remember their loved ones.”
Also on the night, local supply chain business, Loadhog Ltd, presented HOPE with a cheque for £1,000 as part of the charitable work they do to support good causes.
HOPE would like to thank the following people and organisations for their support and generosity in making the comedy night such a huge success:
